Reunion

Réunion is a French island with a population of about 800,000 located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, about 200 kilometres (120 mi) south west of Mauritius. Réunion is an outermost region of the European Union and, as an overseas department of France, is part of the Eurozone. The island covers 2,512 square kilometres (970 sq mi). Sugar was traditionally the chief agricultural product and export, though tourism is now an important source of income. Ethnic groups present include people of European, African, Malagasy, Indian and Chinese origin as well as many of mixed race. French is the only official language of Réunion. Although not official, Réunion Creole is also spoken.
