• Embodying Honor: Fertility, Foreignness, and Regeneration in Eastern Sudan (University of Wisconsin Press, 2007).
• Transcending the Nation: Gender, citizenship, and the imaginings of Sudan in America. Conducted among Sudanese immigrants (2006-present).
• Nomadism: The aesthetics of body and place. Book manuscript, co-authored with Sudanese visual artist Elshafei Dafalla Mohamed.
