Research/Teaching Specialization: Professor Lieberthal completed his doctorate in Political Science at Columbia University in 1972 and joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 1983. He specializes in Chinese domestic politics; Chinese foreign policy; political economy of China and doing business with China. He holds a joint position with the Department of Political Science and the UM Business School. His book "Governing China: From Revolution to Reform," the leading text for courses on Chinese politics, has been thoroughly revised and updated and the Second Edition has just been published by W.W. Norton & Company (February 2004).
