Kamayani Gupta (U-M '10) has embarked on a project to connect middle school students in a rural area of Malaysia, where she will soon be teaching as a Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant fellow, with students in a Detroit middle school.

Not only was she awarded a Fulbright grant to spend the year in Malaysia, but she is a finalist for the Pepsi Refresh Project.  She applied for 5K from Pepsi in order to buy cameras for both classes of students and print their photos, creating a narrative of their lives to shares with their far-flung pen pals.

Her project will show the students not only the differences in their lives, but also, more than likely, some surprising similarities.  Both groups of students will be enriched, their worlds expanded through knowledge of the other.

Help Kamayani win the challenge by voting here. Voting is open and continues through December 31. Please vote as many times as you can!
