First Year Language Scholarship
The Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) is pleased to be able to offer students at the University of Michigan the opportunity to apply for scholarships for studying Filipino, Indonesian, Thai, or Vietnamese language at the beginning level.
CSEAS will offer $1000 scholarships on a competitive basis to students enrolling in the 100-level sequence of courses (Fall and Winter semesters) in Filipino, Indonesian, or Vietnamese.
CSEAS will offer $2000 scholarships on a competitive basis to students enrolling in the 100-level sequence of courses (Fall and Winter) in Thai.
The scholarships are available to both undergraduate and graduate students, but with preference to undergraduates in their first or second years at the University.
The scholarships will be given in two disbursements, paid out after the drop-add deadline each semester. Students must complete the two-course sequence.
Applications for the 2013-2014 academic year will be due by September 3, 2013.

Applying for the First Year Southeast Asian Language Scholarships:
A complete application will include:
- A completed application form
- A one-page personal statement
- A language self-report
- A letter of recommendation from a former or current language teacher (if possible) or from another teacher or instructor
- Academic transcripts
