First Year Southeast Asian Language Scholarships
The Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) is pleased to be able to offer students at the University of Michigan the opportunity to apply for scholarships for studying one of our Southeast Asian languages – Filipino, Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese – at the beginning level during the 2009-2010 academic year.
Southeast Asia Summer FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowship)
The Center does NOT have a Summer FLAS competition because our three awards are donated to SEASSI (the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute). So students planning on attending SEASSI should apply to them for the FLAS. However, the Center is allowed to designate one guaranteed recipient of a SEASSI FLAS.
To be considered, please bring a complete copy of your SEASSI application materials to the Center by Feb. 8, 2008. This is ONE WEEK PRIOR to the SEASSI deadline of Feb. 15. Their deadline is too late for them to send us copies of your materials for our consideration. Be sure to ask your faculty recommenders to send their letters by Feb. 8, not Feb. 15, and to send a photocopy of the letter they prepare for SEASSI to us by Feb. 8 as well. Students can also bring faculty letters to the Center in sealed envelopes signed across the flap by the faculty member. Direct any questions about this process or your application file to Gigi Bosch Gates at gigib@umich.edu; 734-774-5261.
Please go to the SEASSI web site for information on their program and applications process, needed materials, etc.
