Michael D. Kennedy is the Howard R. Swearer Director of the Watson Institute for International Studies and professor of sociology and international studies at Brown University. He formerly served as the University of Michigan’s first vice provost for international affairs and director of the International Institute. He is the founding director of the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia and the Weiser Center for Emerging Democracies at U-M. At the Watson Institute, Kennedy supports colleagues and students working to understand the conditions and consequences of the flows of knowledge, people, wealth, and weapons across global contexts, with the goal of improving policies and the contributions of publics and media to making a better world.
