The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) together with the Brazil Initiative at LACS feature presenters from diverse disciplines. LACS organizes and sponsors more than 50 public lectures, workshops, performances, and conferences over the course of the academic year. 

In addition to our yearly programming, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) and the Brazil Initiative at LACS are happy to consider funding requests to co-sponsor lectures, events, performances,  and activities that coincide with the center's mission to promote a broad and deep understanding of the region. International Institute Undergraduate Academic Offerings Information Session

Thinking About Declaring an International Institute Major or Minor?

Students considering a major or minor through the International Institute are strongly encouraged to attend the International Institute Undergraduate Academic Offerings Information Session. Academic advisor, Kelsey Szpara will present the following International Institute undergraduate majors and minors:

Majors
Minimum 30 credits of coursework related to a world region, theme, and language proficiency:

• Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS)*
• Middle East and North African Studies (MENAS)*
• Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REES)*

Minors
Minimum 15 credits of coursework related to a world region and theme:

• Central Eurasian Studies
• East European Studies
• Islamic Studies
• Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS)
• Middle East and North African Studies (MENAS)
• Modern European Studies
• Russian Studies

*Honors Plan available
Requires language proficiency

The academic advisor will discuss:

• Prerequisites
• Major and minor requirements
• Language proficiency requirements
• How to declare
• Study abroad, grants, and internships
• Relevance of an International Institute major or minor

A half-hour presentation will be followed by questions and discussion. Students can declare an International Institute major or minor at the Information Session. For more information, please e-mail is-advising@umich.edu.
