While many historians and cultural critics have recognized that American perceptions of Japan and of Japanese Americans were fundamentally transformed during the early years of the Cold War, few have reckoned with the key role that the Korean War played in that transformation. This lecture examines how Americans were invited to begin seeing Japanese Americans and the Japanese as loyal allies in Hollywood depictions of the Korean War and in the press.
