International Research Fellowships

The Center for International and Comparative Studies (CICS) announces a call for applications from undergraduate University of Michigan international studies concentrators and minors to conduct innovative research outside of the United States related to the following CICS themes

  • Human Rights
  • International Development
  • International Security and Cooperation

             

    

   
Eligibility

Grants will be awarded to undergraduate students who have declared the International Studies concentration or minor on the Ann Arbor campus. The fellowships will provide up to $2,000 each for research expenses, and may be used for travel and/or living expenses (including summer living expenses), and materials.

Award Criteria

Preference will be given to applications based on:

  • Contribution to the CICS themes listed above
  • Quality, significance, and feasibility of the proposed research activity

Reporting Requirements

Awardees must submit a final report to CICS:

  • A 3-page report must be submitted within 6 weeks after completion of the research
  • Reports should include a summary of the research conducted and activities accomplished
  • Awardees may be asked to present their research or findings to students and faculty in the fall of 2012
  • Reports may appear in CICS or International Institute (II) publications or web sites

Application

The following items must be emailed by the deadline:

  • Completed CICS funding request cover sheet (includes 100-word abstract of the project)
  • One-page description of the objectives of the project and/or research
  • Detailed budget
  • Resume
  • Letter of recommendation from a U-M faculty member

Applications will be reviewed by members of the CICS Advisory Committee. Awards will be based on the quality of the materials submitted.

Deadline

Applications are due by Thursday, March 14, 2013 by 5pm (for summer 2013)
