LACS Partners

To fit the objective of developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with other departments at the University of Michigan, LACS maintains strong ties with several other research and teaching programs on campus.  LACS works closely with these programs by cross listing courses and co-sponsoring events.  Working with other University departments strengthens LACS’ image and allows for better programming.

Several of LACS faculty members are affiliated with these units and we frequently collaborate with these departments for events. Overlapping all four groups are research clusters of faculty and graduate students interested in such areas as:  Latino/a history, "minority" identity, and the experience of migration, The African Diaspora in the Americas, Indigenous America, and questions of colonialism and post-coloniality.

Shared interests in other research areas have also strengthened the links between LACS and the professional schools, particularly: The School of Natural Resources,  The Law School, Business School, and The School of Public Health.  LACS has collaborated with these Professional Schools in regard to: Central American development and its environmental impact, questions concerning NAFTA and other regional trade blocs, and public health issues in the developing areas of the Americas, respectively.
