Graduate Students

The University of Michigan offers graduate students a broad introduction to Latin American and Caribbean Studies. More than 250 graduate and professional school students currently enrolled at the University are interested in or working on some aspect of Latin American and Caribbean studies. These students are enrolled in more than 25 departments and schools, from Anthropology to Urban Planning. Each year, an average of 15 U-M graduate students complete doctoral dissertations specifically focused on Latin America.

To better serve these students, LACS now offers a Graduate Certificate in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. The graduate certificate offers official recognition of the student's work on the region. Please see the Graduate Student Certificate Page for more information.

Prospective graduate students who are interested in the study of Latin America and the Caribbean at the University of Michigan are encouraged to apply to a department or professional school that is relevant to their specialization and to develop their area focus within the department's doctoral program. Graduate admission to the University is conducted through the academic departments and professional schools.
