Student Groups


The University of Michigan has over a thousand student organizations devoted to a variety of different causes. Among these various organizations, there exists several student groups centered around Southeast Asian heritage and culture, as well as other organizations dealing with Southeast Asia.

Filipino American Student Association*

The Filipino American Student Association thrives on Filipino culture as the driving force behind its continuing efforts to educate others about the Filipino heritage.

Malaysian Students Association*

The University of Michigan's Malaysian Students Association organizes activities for the Malaysian students at U-M and promotes Malaysian culture to the local community.

Permias*

The University of Michigan's PERMIAS unifies Indonesian students in the Ann Arbor community and to promote Indonesian culture at U-M.

Singapore Students Association*

The University of Michigan's Singapore Studets Association brings together Singaporeans at U-M together to connect members to the community and beyond.

Thai Student Assocation*

Thai Student Association (TSA) at the University of Michigan is an organization that brings together students from Thailand , Thai-Americans and anyone interested in the Thai Culture.

Vietnamese Student Association*

The Vietnamese Student Association is an organization dedicated to increasing cultural awareness and diversity on campus and in the community. We continue to strive to create a supportive and cooperative community for those of Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese descent. Through numerous activities focusing on the celebration and exposure of Vietnamese culture, VSA hopes to provide the necessary interaction between those of different backgrounds to build cross-cultural bridges and foster acceptance and awareness.

Southeast Asian Network (SEA-Net)*

The Southeast Asian Network aims to develop close partnerships and promote cultural exchange between the student groups from various Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Cambodia. SEA-Net sponsors the popular Southeast Asia Night featuring food and cultural performances each March. Please contact the Center (cseas@umich.edu) if you would like more information.

Michigan Cambodian Association (MCA)*

The University of Michigan's Michigan Cambodian Assocation promotes cultural and minority awareness while at the same time providing a place where both students and faculty of all backgrounds may meet to share a common interest in Cambodian culture. The association is not currently active, but please contact the Center (cseas@umich.edu) if you would like more information.
