Graduate Workshop on European Studies

 (PDF)

The European Union Center of Excellence at the University of Michigan (EUCE-MI) announces an interdisciplinary not-for-credit workshop for advanced graduate students working on issues of contemporary Europe and the European Union.

ELIGIBILITY:
This workshop is open to advanced graduate students with interests in European studies. Graduate students from across disciplines are invited to apply.

PURPOSE:
The workshop offers students the opportunity to benefit from their peers’ feedback in the development of dissertation chapters, articles for publication, and proposals for funding, in an interdisciplinary setting. An additional goal of the workshop is to provide a forum for past recipients of the Jean Monnet Fellowship for Research on European Integration to interact with students who are applying for the Fellowship or intend to do so in the future. Therefore, current Jean Monnet Fellowship applicants are particularly encouraged to apply for participation in the workshop.

ORGANIZATION:

The workshop will be aimed at extending interdisciplinary conversations around historical and current European affairs and stimulating additional graduate student research on contemporary Europe. It will convene during the Winter 2010 semester for two-hour sessions, which will be organized around the discussion of presentations by participating students.  Speakers from the “Conversations on Europe” lecture series may be invited to visit the workshop and discuss their original research.

The workshop will be supervised by Dario Gaggio, EUCE-MI director and professor of history, and facilitated by a Graduate

Student Coordinator. An award of $500 will be granted to one participant for the best paper presented in the workshop.

APPLICATION:

Applications must include:

1.  A letter of interest  with the topic of the paper you would like to present;

2. Curriculum Vitae.
