REES Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) Positions
GSI positions (at a .50 level) are available for the two CREES survey courses: REES 395, Survey of Russia: The Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, and the Successor States (offered Fall 2010); and REES 396, Survey of Central and Eastern Europe and the Enlarged European Union (offered Winter 2011). GSIs receive a full tuition waiver, health insurance, and a salary for the semester in which the position is awarded. These positions are hired under the provisions of the GEO contract. Duties include heading discussion sessions, grading, and holding office hours. All offers of employment are made in writing and are signed by the CREES Director. No discussions or conversations regarding employment should be misinterpreted as offers of employment. The duration of a GSI appointment is for one term only.

Eligibility: Priority will be given to applicants who have an academic background on Russia and the former Soviet Union or Eastern Europe, knowledge of a language of the region, and who intend to pursue an academic career (including teaching) focused on the region. Strong preference will be given to graduate students who have prior experience as a GSI.

1. CREES Fellowship Data Sheet;
2. two letters of recommendation;
3. transcripts;
4. GRE scores;
5. curriculum vitae; and
6. statement of purpose including relevant course work completed and previous teaching experience.
Please indicate in your statement of purpose if you are applying for a GSI position in REES 395 and/or REES 396. Selection decisions by the CREES Fellowship Committee should be completed on or about April 1, 2010. CREES will notify all candidates of hiring decisions by May 3, 2010.
