CREES Research, Internship, and Fellowship Program, Recent Awardees


  

CRIF Program grants are awarded to students in REES-related undergraduate and graduate degree programs at the University of Michigan for summer or semester-long research projects or internships at institutions and businesses in Eastern Europe or the former Soviet Union.

2009

  • Aleksandar Boskovic, PhD Slavic Languages and Literatures (for research on the role of contemporary museum exhibitions in forging Russian nationalism in St. Petersburg, Russia)
  • Charles Cacciola, JD Law (for an internship with the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative in Kyiv, Ukraine)
  • Angela Commito, PhD Classical Art & Archaeology (to join an archaeological field survey team at the Vani Regional Survey in Vani, Georgia)
  • Jessica Fisher, MA REES/MPP Public Policy (for an internship at the U.S. Department of State Bureau of European & Eurasian Affairs in the Office of European Security & Political Affairs in Washington, DC)
  • Krista Goff, PhD History (to conduct archival research on post-Stalinist nationality policies relating to minorities in the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic in Moscow, Russia)
  • Dmytri Hryciw, BFA Art & Design (for a photography project in Ukraine)
  • Heather LaRue McGee, PhD Public Policy/Political Science (to collect data for her dissertation on water resource conflict in Osh, Batken, & Jalalabad, Kyrgyzstan
  • Marianna Oykhman, BA Political Science (to research Jewish emigration and Zionism in the Soviet Union in Jerusalem, Israel)
  • Rachel Schroeder, PhD sociology (to research social memory relating to the Soviet Gulag in Perm, Russia)

  • Ninel Shestakovich, MS Environmental Science (to analyze the vulnerability to climate change of grassland ecosystems in southern Mongolia)
