Books for Peaceful Purposes

The mission of the University of Michigan Center for Chinese Studies is to promote knowledge and understanding of the peoples and cultures of China, from ancient times to the present. To that end, the China Center has been the fortunate recipient of an endowment intended to promote the acquisition of knowledge of China for peaceful purposes. The Center for Chinese Studies uses these funds to help schools in southeast Michigan acquire teaching materials on China.
What Kinds of Teaching Materials?
Appropriate teaching materials could be books, videos, educational DVDs, posters, subscriptions to web sources, or any other medium used in teaching. Materials which would be considered inappropriate to obtain with these funds would be any U.S.-based entertainment using Chinese themes (e.g., Disney films), kung-fu flicks (Jet Li films, etc.), or materials which promote stereotypical, inaccurate or hostile generalizations about China or the people who live there.
How to Apply
Please either e-mail or write the Center for Chinese Studies indicating your desire to apply for these funds and providing the following information:
A list of materials you would like to purchase
Include titles, authors, dates, prices and possible sources
Your complete contact information including phone numbers and e-mail address
The school with which you are affiliated
Grants of up to $300 will be provided on a first come, first serve basis. The purchase of these materials will be handled by the Center for Chinese Studies.  In exchange for this award, recipients will provide a lesson plan and curricula idea featuring the items awarded through the grant.
