Weddings
Many of the elements of seasonal festivals--food, dance, fortunetelling and ritual--are also found in the celebrations of important events and passages in the cycle of individual and family life.
Among the celebrations of these events, the most richly colorful is the rite of matrimony. Like the sense of renewal that accompanies the onset of the New Year, the wedding also marks a time of great expectations, familial closeness, and new beginnings.
Mid-Autumn Festival (15th day, 8th moon)
The Mid-Autumn Festival focuses on the shining harvest moon and fall son the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, exactly in the middle of the autumn season, or in the Gregorian calendar sometime around mid-September, at the time of the full moon commonly called harvest Moon or Hunter's Moon in U.S. lore. In Chinese mythology the moon is the dwelling place of the immortals, and all of the myths associated with the moon relate to longevity. On the eve of the Moon festival storytellers recite the tales of the Mono Palace and its inhabitants.
