African Heritage Initiative (AHI)

The long-term goal of the African Heritage Initiative (AHI) is to deepen intellectual engagement, with the broader domain of African humanities, through research projects with African colleagues. “African heritage” is a critical means by which people engage with the past and define their ties to others in the present. The initiative brings together scholars from our African-partner universities and the University of Michigan to explore the many assumptions circulating about “heritage” and the uses to which it is put.
