ASC faculty associate Siobán Harlow notes, “The award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Dr. Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad is an important recognition of their courageous efforts to help bring voice and justice to the pervasive problem of sexual violence both as an act of war and throughout all global cultures.”

ICART has focused on developing local research capacity to address the health consequences of dislocation and conflict-associated gender-based violence.

Harlow added that in recognition of the Noble Peace Price being awarded to Dr. Mukwege, with his links to U-M, “it behooves us as an institution to reflect on our commitment to social justice {and} to ending sexual violence.”
