CSAS offers a general interdisciplinary Master of Arts program in South Asian studies designed to introduce students to the area and to one or more of its languages. It is intended to provide broad area and language training at the graduate level for students with either academic or professional interests. It is most appropriate for students who are committed to the area and interested in an interdisciplinary approach at the MA level. For those who have received training in fields such as journalism, business administration, library science, social work, public health, teaching at the high school and community college levels, and so forth, the program provides an opportunity to gain a strong background in the cultures and languages of the area. This program is offered through the University of Michigan Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies.
CSAS also offers a graduate certificate program in South Asian studies, as well as dual degree programs for students interested in pursuing the CSAS MA while enrolled in another U-M masters program. We also offer FLAS fellowships to assist students who are studying any one of several modern South Asian languages.
