Description: With recently completed Winter Olympic Games in Pyeonchang, South Korea, and now the dramatic announcement of an impending summit meeting between Kim Chung Un and President Trump, the Koreas have been much in the news.  Of course the current situation on the peninsula is a product of the last 100 years of Imperial peril, colonization, civil war, and cold war division of the Korea into North and South.  Since WW II both North and South Korea have part and parcel of key trends and phenomena in East Asia and World.  This course explores the politics, society, and culture of the two Koreas.  Key topics include national division and the Korean War, The Cold War, Memory, protest, popular culture and globalization.
