LSA Program to Launch a New Living-Learning Community for First-Year Students
In fall 2023, the LSA Comprehensive Studies Program will launch Bridge Scholars Plus, a new initiative to foster first-year students’ success by strengthening community ties.
The Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP) provides academic and social support for a community of scholars at U-M with diverse backgrounds while leading the national standard for anti-racist, inclusive, and accessible education. CSP scholars partner with faculty and advisors who mentor, guide, support, and teach holistically, honoring the whole student and their full humanity. Our objective is to foster an intellectual and social community with enhanced academic opportunities where scholars can thrive, inspire, and be inspired.
CSP’s flagship Summer Bridge Scholars Program welcomes more than 300 students each year. Summer Bridge Scholars are the first students in their class to experience the University of Michigan. Scholars take their first U-M courses, strengthen their academic skills, build a strong and sustainable community, and get to know important campus resources, all before the fall semester begins. Summer Bridge Scholars have the opportunity to join Bridge Scholars Plus, a new and vibrant living-learning program where scholars live together in South Quad, building upon the community they created over the summer. In addition, they will participate in the optiMize Social Innovation Challenge.
